Digital Remixes of Recordings by Bill Kern & Barry Knoedl recorded between 1982 - 1985.
By the summer of 1982, Bill & Barry were churning out new songs so fast that many of them would not be recorded for years to come, if at all.
Some of their best material is from this time. That's not to say that they are the best songs that they wrote, but as a complete entity - song, performance, recording, production - they stand near the top of their entire collection.
From the very beginning, Bill and Barry were recording on a 4 track recorder. Anyone who has ever worked in an analog studio will know that a limitation of tracks can be a limitation of your production. It also means that much of your final mix must be determined during the original performance. It was at this time that we added a second 4 track machine to our studio. Although, at the time, we still had to premix many instruments and vocals, when the tracks were later transferred to digital, we were able to synchronize all the various tapes, allowing us to use the tracks before they were bounced down or mixed. This gave us 6, 8 or sometimes more tracks of discrete instruments to mix. These are the last recordings we made on 4 track. In fact, one of the songs on this album was originally started on 4 track, but later restarted and completed on our new 16 track recorder.
These songs are more varied in style than any other period for Bill & Barry.
